Starting with a Curl Foundations appointment is important for both of us!
One of my goals in opening Brooklyn’s Curl Suite is to ensure that all of my clients are getting the time and attention they need from me to have a positive and successful hair journey – as curlies, we’ve suffered enough already! If you’re just looking for a quick one-off cut while you’re in the area, I totally get it and I respect that, but I’m not the right stylist for you.
The “foundations” in Curl Foundations doesn’t only refer to the educational foundations of curly hair care; it’s about building the foundations of a professional partnership centered around your hair. We’re co-parenting your curls, here, and in order to do that the right way, we need to sort a few things out.
Establishing Hair Goals
We’re establishing what I hope will be a long-term partnership, and if we’re going to be successful, we need to figure out what our goals are. Some clients are aiming for longer hair, others a particular color, a low-maintenance routine, or a look with lots of style options. Let’s talk about what’s most important to you when it comes to your hair and lay out a roadmap for getting there.
Building A Care Routine
I know I’m leaning really hard on this word, but here it is again: partnership. My ideal client is someone who’s looking for a curl care partner, and that means we’re both investing effort into caring for your curls. As part of establishing your hair goals, we’re going to build a hair care routine that fits your lifestyle, and we’re going to practice it together to ensure it’s something you feel comfortable keeping up with at home.
Familiarizing Myself With
Your Hair
All curls are beautiful, but curls are incredibly diverse, and I think that’s wonderful. The needs of your curls are likely to be different from those of another client. Giving me time to get to know your hair is doing us both a favor; it means that the next time I see you, I’ll know what products and techniques to use before you even walk through the door, and you’ll know that your curl crown is in trustworthy hands.
Getting To Know You
Brooklyn’s Curl Suite is meant to offer a luxury experience, and to do that I need to know who you are and what your needs are. These may not be hair-specific needs, but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be important! I want to know what non-hair needs I can meet for you while you’re here. Wanna get down to some ‘00s pop and have a dance break while your color processes? Sweet, I got Britney locked and loaded. Do you need an accommodation such as room for mobility devices, or gluten-free snacks? Awesome, let’s work that out together. Looking for a straight-up gossip session? Gurl lemme get my hearing aid, I’m in.
