Seeing a New Stylist can be Scary
Trust me, I understand. As a fellow curly girl, I too have been burned (literally and figuratively), in a salon. We've become accustomed to coaching our stylist about shrinkage and always aiming on the longer side. Leaving the salon wet or worse, restyling our hair as soon as we get home. Or just leaving the salon with a style that we could never recreate. I've built a curl sanctuary in my chair where you can finally rest and enjoy the salon experience like everyone else. I'm here to bring simplicity to your curl routine so you don't have to think about your curls. No more guessing, only results that fit your lifestyle and allow you to spend time focused on whats important to you.

A little about me
Hey there! I'm Brooklyn
A curl specialist based in Portland, Maine. I’ve been doing hair since 2014 and opened Brooklyn’s Curl Suite in 2021. My goal is to teach people how to style their curls in a way that fits their lifestyle. I love helping clients simplify their routines while still achieving their personal curl goals.
Over the years, I’ve trained all over the country to learn how to properly approach every curl type so each one can truly thrive. Outside of the salon, I love going on long walks, reading dark romance novels, watching Jersey Shore, and exploring local businesses around Portland with my husband and our two daughters.

If you’re looking for a stylist who celebrates natural beauty and helps you unlock your curls full potential, I’d love to meet you!

My Curl Journey

I'm the only one in my family who has curly hair and for as long as I can remember people have been commenting on it. Unfortunately they weren't always kind and I internalized a lot of frustration with my natural hair.

I grew up knowing that something was obviously different about my hair and that it was perceived as "bad". I tried nearly everything to conceal my curls, but they were always breaking through.

My husband was the first person in my life who perfered my curls. In 2016 he encouraged me to find resources and educate myself so that I felt confident wearing my natural curls.

As I learned more about my hair I felt a unfimiliar peace. I was able to just let my curls be and trust that they would thrive. It finally hit me how much of my time had been spent worrying about my hair. I knew I wasn't alone and starting shouting solutions from rooftops hoping to save another curly from the overwhelming stress of their curls.

From a young age my mom would do her best to blowdry and brush out my curls in an attempt to "control" them. Detangling my hair was a daily fight and I could tell my hair frustrated everyone around me. My insecurity ran so deep that I didn't learn how to swim out of fear of others seeing my natural texture,

I started straightening my hair in sixth grade and stopped wearing my curls out. Some of my best friends at the time didn't even know my hair was curly. I used the highest heat, no heat protectant, and I styled my hair daily. I spent hours a day on my hair, sculpting it into a more digestible form so I could blend in with my peers.

I eventually found classes, peers, professinals, and products that filled in all the gaps I had about my own curls. I trained all over the country absorbing as much as I could to ensure I was getting the best results. I finally learned how to cut, style, dry, sleep, and refresh my own hair.

I knew I needed to share this information with other curlies so they could begin taking back their time like I did. I made it my mission to show every curly haired person that they can have beautiful curls that fit their lifestyle. No need for 60 products or long styling routines. Just simple techniques, 1-2 products, and free space in your mind to focus on what's important to you.
These days I have full confidence in my curls and it fills my cup to teach others how to achieve what I have. No brands, no gimmicks, just simple curl routines that fit your lifestyle.
