Over the past few years, social media platforms like Instagram have played a significant role in connecting me with my amazing curly-haired clients. It’s been a place to share tips, showcase transformations, and build a sense of community. But as we’ve all seen, the digital landscape is changing—and not always for the better.
Recently, I’ve experienced firsthand the frustrations that come with relying heavily on platforms like Instagram. Algorithm changes are nothing new, but incidents such as my account following and liking content without my consent have made it clear that control over my own business presence on these platforms is limited. Reporting these issues hasn’t led to resolution, leaving me feeling like a passive participant in my own online presence.
The 17-hour TikTok ban was another wake-up call, even though I don’t personally use the platform. For countless business owners and creators, years of effort in building a brand and a following can vanish overnight. It’s a stark reminder that we don’t own these platforms—and they can change or disappear with little to no notice.
That’s why I’m shifting my focus to blogging on my website. Unlike social media, my website is a space I fully own and control. It’s where I can create content designed specifically for you, my clients, without the noise and unpredictability of algorithms or platform policies.
This doesn’t mean I’ll abandon Instagram entirely. I’ll still post there, but the content will be more focused on leading you to my website. Think of Instagram as a highlight reel, while the blog will be where the deeper conversations happen. By making this shift, I can focus on meaningful communication and sharing the knowledge that empowers you to care for your curls in a practical, effective way.
I’m excited about the possibilities this pivot brings. Blogging allows me to create content that aligns with your values: practicality, quality, and functionality. It’s a chance to explore topics that resonate with your lifestyle—from how to simplify your wash-day routine to understanding how to choose the right products without breaking the bank.
Stepping away from the constant hustle of Instagram also feels like a breath of fresh air. The pressure to stay perpetually active, respond to every DM, and keep up with endless algorithm changes is exhausting. Blogging provides a more intentional, thoughtful way to engage with you—on my terms.
Ultimately, this shift is about building a deeper connection with you, my clients, and creating a resource that serves your needs directly. I’m ready to take on this new challenge and to create content that’s as unique and beautiful as your curls. Thank you for joining me on this journey!
